Dr Jazz at DBC

On Saturday 9 May 2026 Music and Dancing with Dr Jazz will be the order of the day. Arrive 19:00 for a 19:30 start for a night of fun.
Dr Jazz formed in early 2022 when two recently retired GPs (Des Ling, Queens Avenue Surgery, Dorchester and Adrian Clarke, Fordington Surgery, Dorchester) got together to discuss their new retirement hobby of playing musical instruments – Adrian on double bass and Des on guitar. Soon after they were joined by Jon Orrell, also a recently retired GP (Royal Crescent Surgery, Weymouth) on horns (saxophones, trumpet, trombone etc).
Since then, the trio have performed extensively throughout West Dorset at private parties, charity events, weddings, residential homes, pubs, restaurants, fetes and fairs etc, usually joined by one or more other musicians depending on the size of the venue – up to seven for a large gig. For the concert at Dorchester Bowls Club we are delighted to be joined by another retired GP, Dr Sue Beckers (from Charmouth Surgery) on vocals.
Our repertoire consists largely of classic songs from the jazz era up to the 1960s (Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra etc) sometimes known as The Great American Songbook and we are also happy to take requests if we can find the music!
